Media artist, director and choreographer Klaus Obermaier creates innovative works in the field of performing arts, music, theatre and new media, highly acclaimed by critics and audience. Klaus’ performances and installations are shown at festivals and theaters throughout Europe, Asia, North and South America and Australia. He worked with dancers of the Nederlands Dans Theater, Chris Haring, Robert Tannion (DV8), Desireé Kongerød (S.O.A.P. Dance Theatre Frankfurt). He composed for ensembles like Kronos Quartet, German Chamber Philharmonics, Art Ensemble of Chicago, Balanescu Quartet, and many more. Since 2006 he is visiting professor at the University IUAV of Venice teaching directing and new media’ Also since 2006 he is member of the jury of the international choreography competition no ballet in Ludwigshafen/Rhein, Germany. In 2005 and 2008 he taught as an adjunct professor for composition at the Webster University Vienna. Since 2010 he holds courses for choreography and new media at the Accademia Nazionale di Danza di Roma and the University IUAV of Venice.

Daan Roosegaarde creates designs that interact with sound and movement and by which viewer and space become one. His vision behind this distinct connection: techno-poetry. Daan is creative director of the social design lab Studio Roosegaarde. With offices in Rotterdam and Shanghai, he develops innovative, interactive landscapes that are accomplished through the objective of pulling technology ‘out of the screen’ and integrating it into the real world. Daan is known for internationally awarded projects such as Dune and Intimacy 2.0. He also developed the Sustainable Dance Floor, an interactive dance floor that generates electricity through the motion of dancing. He is currently working on the future concept Smart Highways, trying assist drivers in order to make their journeys safer and more energy efficient. Daan has won the Dutch Design Award, Charlotte Kohler Prijs, Design for Asia Award and China’s Most Successful Design Award. He has been the focus of exhibitions at the Tate Modern, the National Museum in Tokyo, the Victoria and Albert Museum London, and various public spaces in Rotterdam and Hong Kong.

Media philosopher und art historian Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich is a researcher in consumerism theory, pictorial worlds and the role of art in modern society.

Munic-born Prof. Dr. Ullrich is a professor for art history and media philosophy at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe. After his graduation in 1994, he embraced various teaching oportunities, among others as a lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich and visiting scholar at the Academy of Fine Arts Hamburg.

The German National Library currently lists more than 40 works published by Prof. Dr. Ullrich, not mentioning dozens of articles and columns for renown german newspapers like TAZ and Die Zeit. Among his publications: Habenwollen (“must have”) andBilder auf Weltreise (“pictures going around the world”), being involvements with modern consumer culture and the imapct of pictures beyond cultural boundaries. Prof. Dr. Ullrich was awarded the third Martin-Warnke medal and the research award of the Aby-Warburg foundation. His book Raffinierte Kunst. Übung vor Reproduktionen was nominated for the non-fiction category of the Leipzig Book Award.

Jeroen Junte’s work as a design critic and author focuses on the shifting role of designers and architects in the 21st century, where presentation becomes mediation. Jeroen regularly publishes articles in national durch news magazines Het Financieele Dagblad and de Volkskrant as well as international magazines such as Damn* and FRAME. His latest book Hands on: 21st century dutch design provides insights into the work of influential and upcoming designers and their production habits, among others artisanal working methods, rigorous conceptual research and prototyping. His widely spread interests also cover aspects like critical design and open design. Jeroen is fascinated by approaches that transform viewers into users and creators of their own art. One of his current favorite projects is Solar Sinter, a 3D printer invented by german designer Markus Kayser. Solar Sinter allows desert dwellers to create their own art work from sand, all powered by solar energy.

Antony Turner is founder of Carbon Visuals, whose visualization New York’s carbon emissions – in real time went through media in the end of 2012 and generated a lot of buzz.

Antony is CEO and responsible for the strategic development of the Carbon Visuals project. Besides, he is founder and managing director of the consulting firm CarbonSense. Carbon Visuals is dedicated to the visualization of energy balance. The project focuses on visuals based on references in the natural habitat of the observer and therefore creates a tangible basic for decision-making for personal action. The visualizations of Carbon Visuals were also addressed by BBC, Mashable, Spiegel online, Gizmodo and others.

Pablo Vio is convinced: If you want to tell stories that move people, every pixel matters. His approaches have been key to projects like the award-winning interactive documentary Bear 71. Pablo is Partner and Creative Director at Jam3, Toronto. Jam3 specializes in creating highly advanced, experiential works in both the advertising and entertainment industries. By merging unique interactivity with detailed design they produce engaging digital stories that incorporate everything from live action, animation and sound design to coded particle systems and complex 3D engines. They have been honored with more than 110 national and international awards in the past years. One of their most-renowned projects, Bear 71, is an interactive documentary about a bear in the Canadian Rockies that illuminates the way humans engage with wildlife in the age of networks, satellites, and digital surveillance. For their meticulous work stitching together data points to tell a vivid and complex story, Pablo and the Bear 71 team have won numerous awards, including the Cannes Lions’ Gold Cyber Lion, FWA Site of the Year, One Show Interactive’s Gold Pencil, and a Communication Arts award. For Denon’s new line of headphones, Jam3 created VisYOUalize. Using the Kinect camera to capture 3D depth and colour data of faces, they then turned the recorded point cloud data into stylized music visualizers that move and react to music.

Artist Dries Verbruggen is co-founder of the design studio Unfold. By focussing on computation design and production methods as well as spatial design, he translated pottery to the 21st century.

Unfold was founded in 2002 by Claire Warnier and Dries Verbruggen after they graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven. It’s intention was to be become platform for just everything they did and would do. The Antwerp-based duo developed a strong multidisciplinary background in design, technology and art and often collaborates with a vast network of kindred spirits and specialists.

Unfold’s works were exhibited in a variety of cities around Europe, among others in Brussels, Antwerp, Hasselt, London, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, New York, Milan, Stockholm and Prague. The studio and its outcome were reported on in multiple books and magazines like FRAME, Elle Living, Grand Stand 2, Designboom.com, Spacecraft 2, House of concepts and Beyond Architecture.

Catalogtree experiments in various fields such as micro robotics and typography. The dutch design studio is highly interested in self-organising systems.

Catalogtree was founded in 2001 by Daniel Gross and Joris Maltha. Experimental tooling, programming, typography and the visualization of quantitative data are only a small extract of their daily business. Their work ist acting to Catalogtree’s own maxim “Form Equals Behaviour”. Recent endeavours include an interactive documentary for the iPad, a swarm of 21 bristle bots and a double pendulum gear clock.

Amongst their clients are Phaidon Press, Vitra Design Museum, Architect Magazine and New York Times Magazine. Daniel and Joris are also teaching at Design Academy’s Master course in Eindhoven/NL.
